Feast your eyes on the latest sustainable fashions from Miranda Brown, Sitka, We’ar, Starfish, Chalky Digits, the best of NZ Fashion Tech’s up-cycling project, and more at New Zealand's First Ethical Fashion Show, part of the Sustainable City Showcase.
This will be a fashion show with a difference! It will bust through the ‘hemp & sandals’ barrier, integrating every day solutions such as household products from ecostore, beauty products from Living Nature and World Organic, and clothing for kids from Nature Baby, all to music powered up by George FM.
The show will be managed by Yasmin Farry, with models provided by Vanity Walk. Chetan Mongia, TRESemmé New Zealand top stylist of 2011, will be glamming them up with great natural hair products and make-up artist Nikki Paton from Angels Nest will be adding the finishing touches. All models will wear ethical clothing and beauty products.
What is sustainable fashion?
Sustainable fashion means embracing sustainability throughout the production of clothes – from start to finish. It means selecting natural materials such as organic cotton, merino, silk, linen, bamboo and wood pulp fibre. It means using quality and timeless design to create clothing that will last, not simply be discarded when trends change. It involves using non-toxic dyes and minimising waste, with careful re-use or recycling of off-cuts. It’s also about social responsibility, such as ensuring good working conditions for all employees. Sustainable fashion extends to practices in the office too – such as reducing energy use and waste.
The designers and organisations showcasing their clothes and products at this fashion show all employ sustainable practices. So come and check out their latest designs and show them your support at New Zealand’s First Ethical Fashion Show!
$30 tickets also include a goody bag and a glass of sustainable wine.
